Larry Robinson immortalized tonight.
Tonight, Larry Robinson, one of the greatest defensemen to ever wear the Montreal Canadiens jersey was honored as his famous number 19 was raised to the Bell centre ceiling.
Looking at his past accomplishments as a part of the Montreal Canadiens, this jersey retirement ceremony is really deserved. Robinson played 1384 games during his glorious career and wrote his name on the scoring sheet a total of 958 times. He also won the Stanley cup a total of 6 times as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, has won the Conn Smythe trophy in 1978 and has won the Norris trophy 2 times.
Larry was one of my first favorite player as I was just a kid. The 1986 Stanley Cup championship, the last of his career as a player, is still very fresh to my memory. And from that very moment, my love for this hockey club has never faded.
But beyond statistical numbers, Robinson had a strong presence whenever he was on the ice. His tall stature was often needed to defend his teammates and check his opponents into the boards. The Montreal fans reserved a warm cheer for one of their favorite players. Larry Robinson will never forget this very night...the night he became a legend himself.
Thank you and congratulations Big Bird.
