Sens secures 1st place.
The Montreal Canadiens were on the road today for an important game as they faced the 1st place Ottawa Senators. Montreal was only 5 points behind the Sens before the game. A very surprizing start of season for the Habs.
After a power play goal by Andrei Markov during the first period, Montreal saw the Senators dominate the game. Only Christobal Huet in net was refusing to let one in and kept the game at 1-0 Montreal for a long time.
The Senators worked harder and pressed the issue late in the game and finally managed to score 2 quick goals to finally add another one in an empty net during the final minute of the game. Chris Neil scored the game-winner while Daniel Alfredsson scored 2 goals and Dany Heatley registered 2 assists.
Final score: Ottawa Senators 3 - Montreal Canadiens 1.
So with the win, the Senators increase their divisional lead to 7 points in front of Montreal. A little margin of error will be appreciated by the Ottawa players.
Next game for the Habs will take place tuesday in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
