NHL 2007 playoffs: Anaheim-Minnesota
Two of the best teams in the goals allowed section are matched up for this series. First the Anaheim Ducks with their star goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Giguere had an excellent season despite an injury, he shows a 2.26 goal against average in the 56 games he played. The Ducks' main offensive weapons are Teemu Selanne, Andy McDonald and defensemen Scott Niedermayer. Anaheim came very close from winning a Stanley cup a few years ago with Giguere in net; the Ducks lost game 7 of the Stanley cup final in 2003.
The Minnesota Wild are coached by Jacques Lemaire, a defense guru. Their goaltender statistics this season are impressive because of that. Niklas Backstrom finished the season with a goal against average of 1.97 in 41 games while Manny Fernandez had a 2.55 GAA in 44 games. On offense the Wild cannot be considered as a serious threat. Marian Gaborik is the only serious offensive weapon of Minnesota. Gaborik managed to total 57 points in 48 games. But I don't see how they could even win a single series this year with so little offensive talent.
The Ducks should win this series in 5 easy games.
