Conditions a bit better to end the Masters.
There was less wind to deal with for the players for the final round of the Masters from Augusta. Retief Goosen and Rory Sabbatini rushed to the front of the leaderboard very early in their respective round with series of consecutive birdies on the front 9. Halfway thru the final round, seven players were inside 3 strokes of the tournament lead.
Tiger Woods is among the leading group but isn't playing well enough to take the lead. The major part of this final round, Woods was 3 strokes off the lead. Sometimes pulling a good shot and missing the next one. Too many times Tiger's drives ended up in the rough outside the fairways and he even damaged one of his iron while playing a shot by a tree. Towards the end of the round, the leaderboard showed that a group of players were fighting for the lead.
Zach Johnson +1 (71-73-76-18th hole)
Retief Goosen +3 (76-76-70-16th hole)
Rory Sabbatini +3 (73-76-73-69)
Tiger Woods +3 (73-74-72-16th hole)
Justin Rose +3 (69-75-75-16th hole)
Zach Johnson birdied three holes late in the round, going back on par for a moment and had a 3-stroke lead over his closest challengers. Johnson finished at +1. Tiger woke up late with an eagle at the 13th hole to go to +3 in a tie with the group. Just too little too late for Tiger.
Zach Johnson is the 2007 Masters champion. This is of course his first major PGA title in cereer. In addition of winning the green jacket, the purse and the honors, Johnson earns some priviledges like being a member of the Augusta national golf club and automatic qualification for the upcoming Masters editions. All the leaders are automatically qualified for the next Masters edition.
