20 Millions$ on the table for Markov.

Montreal Canadiens GM, Bob Gainey, offered a 4-year deal for a grand total of $20 Millions to defensemen Andrei Markov. Don Meehen is Markov's agent, the ball is in his hands. (a greedy agent too)

I am a bit surprized by Gainey's first offer. This is $1 Million more a year that what would've been my opening offer. Also, Markov has been injuried to a knee during the World championships in Moscow. We will hope this will not affect his play. He has a 5 week recovery period ahead of him but avoided the surgery.

But I understand Gainey showing clearly that he is in the team's plan to stay here. Now is Gainey planning to keep Sheldon Souray along with Markov? When Craig Rivet was traded to the San Jose Sharks, I suspected a form of plan to keep both Markov and Souray. The next few weeks will tell, contracts expire around July 1st.

This seems to be the going market for most defensemen at 4/20. I would have offered like you said 4/16 which Kaberle got from the Leafs (I would have Kaberle over him).

Souray looks like he'll get 6 years/42 M.

6 years for Souray? Whoa, this looks like a long deal. Too long for nothing if you ask me. Why risk being caught 3 years from now with a crippled player? He had his part of injuries in his life.

Yes true but Jovanovski was given 6/39 and the market for everyone has gone up since the last year. Jovanovski isn't always the healthiest either. I personally would like a slightly cheaper Timmonen but he's probably going to get 6 per year.

Nashville has a way to find cheap offensive defensemens. First it was Zidlicky who had 2 great seasons, then Timonon, then last lear Shea Weber impressed me a lot.

All of Nashville prospects impress me. Cody Franson who the Flyers wanted may turn out to be really good. Nashville has built their team through the draft and great GMing so trades like the Forsberg trade was nothing to them.
