Interbox cancels the march 23rd gala.

The march 23rd Interbox gala scheduled in Montreal has been cancelled. The main event fighter, Lucian Bute, had to cancel his fight because the IBF has nominated him to an eliminatory championship bout that Bute accepted.

By rule, when a boxer is scheduled to such a bout, he cannot participate in a fight until the eliminatory championship bout happens. The Interbox protege decided that this was a great opportunity for his career. He also apologized to the fans for cancelling his fight. Interbox has reserved the Bell centre for June 15th hoping to present the fight in Montreal. Should Bute win this fight he would become the mandatory opponent to the IBF super-middleweight champion.

Right now, Alejandro Berrio is the IBF super-middleweight champion and has a title defense scheduled against Markus Beyer... the same Beyer that took the WBC super-middleweight title from Interbox's owner Eric Lucas a few years ago.

Should Beyer win the IBF title and Bute win his eliminatory championship, a mandatory title defense would have to happen between those two before september 3rd.
