Habs refused to lose.

The Montreal Canadiens were in a must win situation yesterday at the Bell centre. The Habs scored 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period and defeated the New-York Islanders 5-3 in one of the best game played by the team this season.

The young guns of the team took charge: Guillaume Latendresse with 2 goals, Andrei Kostitsyn did very well with 3 assists in the 3rd period alone.

Ryder, Higgins and Plekanec scored a goal each on goaltender Mike Dunham who did very well replacing Rick DiPietro. (injured in a collision with Steve Begin in the 1st period)

This injury could be a huge blow to the Islanders especially if DiPietro is victim of a concussion. Why? Because should a concussion be the exact nature of DiPietro's injury, a NHL rule says that a concussed player must take one full week of rest before playing again. The Islanders staff said that they will wait for THEIR own doctor diagnosis to inform the public.

Could the Islanders even think about jeopardizing the health of a goaltender signed for the next 14 seasons (yes you read accuratly signed for the next 14 seasons) to make the playoffs this year???

There should be more to come later on this week...

Until then, here is the Eastern conference race this morning:

7 NY ISLANDERS 69 34 25 10 78 207 195
8 CAROLINA 71 35 28 8 78 206 212

9 TORONTO 70 34 27 9 77 219 227
10 NY RANGERS 70 34 28 8 76 200 193
11 MONTREAL 71 35 30 6 76 208 223
