The doubtful champ list grows.
I watched monday night RAW yesterday as I haven't seen Backlash, the latest pay-per-view event presented last sunday. During Backlash, the chairman of the board Vince McMahon was in a handicap match with his son Shane McMahon and Umaga against the ECW champion Bobby Lashley. The three mens managed to beat down Lashley and Vince McMahon covered the champion for the 3-count and was declared the new ECW champion.
I ignore the exact reasons that motivated the chairman to go ahead and declare himself ECW champ. Maybe he wanted to remind the wrestlers that HE now own the ECW brand and can make whatever he wants with it. We saw a few ECW originals comment on this during yesterday's RAW. All of them looked angry with the situation. Rob Van Damme, Sabu, Tommy Dreamer and Sandman said that this was a dark day for ECW. And the originals are probably pissed for real, no comedian talent was needed for this one. And I agree with them. The ECW originals made the brand popular with their extreme stunts over the years, now the only extreme thing about the ECW champion right now is his age and his ego.
Two weeks ago, a nobody (Santino Marella) has won the Intercontinental championship. I tought it was rather funny at the moment until I heard him yesterday on his first interview. What a boring interview...all he could say is that he was like in a dream and still could not believe that he was holding a WWE title. A total lack of charisma from Marella made this 3 minute interview look like it was an hour long. He will defend his title for the first time next week on RAW. Let's hope he will lose his title next week to someone credible.
So we now have two doubtful champions in the WWE. Santino Marella and Vince McMahon himself. Who's next? Linda McMahon winning the womens championship in a bra and panties match? Ewwwww...
