Canadian performance of the week: John Kucera.

During the last weekend, and for the first time in Canadian history, John Kucera has won the gold medal at the downhill event of the 2009 World Championships presented in Val d'Isere, France.

Kucera completed his event with a time of 2:07.01 and it was good enough for a gold medal at this prestigious competition. This is his first important victory in career because his only victory on the world cup circuit came in 2006 at Lake Louise where he had won the Super-G event.

With the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics around the corner, this great result will push the rest of the Canadian team members to keep their best shape and be in the race for this important competition.

Erik Guay scores another poduim.

The great season of Erik Guay continues as he finished in 3rd place at the Lenzerheide, Switzerland Super G competition today. This is his 3rd poduim in just under a month. His repeated performances are finally opening some eyes in Canada. Bode Miller who finished 4th, wins the Super G crystal globe.

This was also the last world cup Super G competition of the season and the last race in career for Fritz Strobl, 34 years old. He celebrated the end of his career by wearing a Mozart costume and a white wig.

Erik Guay among the best again

Erik Guay gave Canada another great performance. After a gold medal in a downhill event 3 weeks ago, Guay came in second place today only 0.06 seconds behind event winner Didier Cuche at Kvitfjell, Norway.

Cuche with this victory wins the downhill crystal globe awarded to the season champion.

With this other great performance, Guay confirms his status as one of the best downhill skier on the planet. Guay and the canadian ski team should give us great moments at the next winter olympic games in Vancouver.

After Eric Guay's gold medal downhill victory, the canadian team strikes gold once again.

Jennifer Heil won the gold medal in acrobatics, François Bourque grabbed silver medal in Slovenia, a second one for him this winter in giant slalom. Emily Brydon got a bronze also. It has been a very long time since the country has been this good. We will have a beautiful ski team for the next Vancouver winter Olympics.

Erik Guay strikes gold!

Erik Guay has done a really great performance today. Guay has won the Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany downhill event. Guay was half a second faster than second place skier Andrej Jerman. Didier Cuche finished 3rd.

For the first time in 13 years a canadian has won a downhill event on the world cup of skiing. The last canadian athlete to achieve such a performance was Cary Millen in 1994 at Aspen, Colorado.
