Canada opens with a win.

Team Canada Jr opened their tournament with a very solid performance, a 3-0 victory over the Czech republic.

John Tavares
didn't waste any time to showcase all of his scoring skills as he scored twice during the game including the first goal of the tournament for Canada. Matthew Halischuk scored the other goal for Canada. Steven Stamkos grabbed 3 assists during the game.

Goaltender Jonathan Bernier held the Czech republic scoreless as he blocked all of the 44 shots that were sent his way. Bernier was very effective especially during the first period as the Czech tried all they could to score the first goal of the game. The canadian goaltender was chosen as the player of the game.

This one will count as the 19th consecutive victory for Canada at the World junior hockey championships.

Today's other scores:

USA 5 - Kazakhstan 1
Russia 7 - Finland 4
Sweden 4 - Slovakia 3
