Habs blows a lead.
The Montreal Canadiens were doing fine in Toronto yesterday. As the second period was winding down, the Habs were ahead on their arch-rivals Toronto Maple Leafs by 3-1.
A small mistake by Christobal Huet while manoevering the puck around his net allowed the Leafs to cut the lead to 3-2 before the end of the second period. More importantly, it gave some hope back to the Toronto team, who really looked down and out at 1-3.
The Leafs were energized and were everywhere on the ice during the third period. They tied the score at 3-3 during the third period and forced the overtime. Montreal tried to win the game in overtime but Alex Kovalev's wild shot ringed on Vesa Toskala's cross bar. Alexei Ponikarovski scored two goals while captain Mats Sundin participated to 3 of the Leafs goals, picking up 3 assists in the game.
Finally, Tomas Kaberle ended the contest during the overtime period, on the power play to give the Leafs a 4-3 win, their first win this season.
As for Montreal, they pick up the lone point for losing in overtime. Montreal has 3 points after 2 games.
